Hat trick for Tshagay sends City on top

Thimphu City’s title defence took a huge step forward as captain Tshering Dorji scored a hat trick beating fellow contenders Transport United 3-1 at Changlimithang.

Reds finish the month of June where they started it, atop the standing once again. Deadlock was broken when Tshering Dorji grabbed the lead in the 18th minute after Orgyen’s long free-kick found him unmarked right in front of the goal. Tshagay was the difference at halftime, with both teams failing to convert on chances.

In the 66th minute Nima Wangdi sent our skipper rushing behind the defence, beating Hari to insure the lead. Karma Shedrup scooped up the ball in the centre of the pitch four minutes later, allowing Karma Sonam to once again send Tshering Dorji racing for the hat trick. With seven goals in six games, he is now second on the goal scoring chart. Former reds Sampa Tshering pulled one back with 12 minutes of regulation time to play but it was too little, too late for the opponents.

Man of the Match
While the boys were unable to keep a clean sheet, the backline’s performance proved inevitable to keep City a point adrift on top. Center back Phuntsho Jigme was picked Man of the Match. He was happy with the result as he considers tonight’s opponents to be one of the toughest in the league. “We are happy to win against them. Everyone gave 100% because this was a must-win game. We wanted to go back on top.”
